Complex Airplane Endorsement

There are no minimum number of flight hours required to obtain a complex endorsement, although you will be required to receive and log ground and flight training from an authorized instructor in a complex airplane, or in a flight simulator or flight training device that is representative of a complex airplane, and have been found proficient in the operation and systems of the airplane.

High Altitude Endorsement

Description of Requirement:
1. Pressurized aircraft, according to part 61, is defined as a pressurized aircraft that has a service ceiling or maximum operating altitude, whichever is lower, above 25,000 feet msl.
2. Prior to receiving your high-altitude endorsement, you will need to receive and log ground and flight training from an authorized instructor. The ground training must include at least the following subjects:
2.1. High-altitude aerodynamics and meteorology;
2.2. Respiration;
2.3. Effects, symptoms, and causes of hypoxia and any other high-altitude sickness;
2.4. Duration of consciousness without supplemental oxygen;
2.5. Effects of prolonged usage of supplemental oxygen;
2.6. Causes and effects of gas expansion and gas bubble formation;
2.7. Preventive measures for eliminating gas expansion, gas bubble formation, and high-altitude sickness;
2.8. Physical phenomena and incidents of decompression; and
2.9. Any other physiological aspects of high-altitude flight.
3. After meeting the ground training requirements, the instructor who provided the ground training will make an endorsement in your logbook or training record certifying that you have satisfactorily accomplished the ground training.
4. To meet the flight training requirements, you will need to receive and log training from an authorized instructor in a pressurized aircraft (remember the definition of a pressurized aircraft), or in a flight simulator or flight training device that is representative or a pressurized aircraft. The flight training must include at least the following subjects:
4.1. Normal cruise flight operations while operating above 25,000 feet MSL;
4.2. Proper emergency procedures for simulated rapid decompression without actually depressurizing the aircraft; and
4.3. Emergency descent procedures.

Seaplane Rating

Description of Requirement:
1. It can normally be completed in 6-10 hours of training. It will also comply with the requirements for the Biennial Flight Review (BFR). There is no minimum number of hours required, or a formal FAA written exam. There is an Oral/Practical Flight Exam with a Designated Pilot Examiner.
Multiengine Rating

1. While there are no specific hour requirements for adding a multi-engine rating to a certificate, typically most pilots will require about 10 hours of flight training to reach the proficiency required to pass the practical test.

2. Hold either a commercial pilot certificate or airline transport pilot certificate with:
2.1. An aircraft category and class rating that is appropriate to the flight instructor rating sought; and
2.2. A flight instructor certificate with an instrument rating
3. Receive a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor on the fundamentals of instructing listed in §61.185 of this part appropriate to the required knowledge test;
4. Pass a knowledge test on the areas listed in §61.185(a)(1) of this part, unless the applicant:
4.1. Holds a flight instructor certificate or ground instructor certificate issued;
4.2. Holds a teacher's certificate issued by a State, county, city, or municipality that authorizes the person to teach at an educational level of the 7th grade or higher; or
4.3. Is employed as a teacher at an accredited college or university.
5. Pass a knowledge test on the aeronautical knowledge areas listed in §61.185(a)(2) and (a)(3) of this part that are appropriate to the flight instructor rating sought;
6. Receive a logbook endorsement from an authorized instructor on the areas of operation listed in §61.187(b) of this part, appropriate to the flight instructor rating sought;
7. Pass the required practical test that is appropriate to the flight instructor rating sought in an:
7.1. Aircraft that is representative of the category and class of aircraft for the aircraft rating sought; or
7.2. Flight simulator or approved flight training device that is representative of the category and class of aircraft for the rating sought, and used in accordance with a course at a training center certificated under part 61 item 142.
8. Log at least 15 hours as pilot in command in the category and class of aircraft that is appropriate to the flight instructor rating sought; and
9. Comply with the appropriate sections of this part that apply to the flight instructor rating sought.
Multiengine Rating Instructor
